Cancellation of the Harmonized Sales Tax Rate increase in Newfoundland and Labrador

December 2015

On December 14, 2015, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced that the proposed intention to increase, as of January 1, 2016, the rate of the provincial component of the harmonized sales tax (HST) resulting in an HST rate of 15%, has been cancelled.

As a consequence of this announcement, you should ensure that any work that was undertaken to update your systems is not required anymore. You may want to ensure that the HST rate used in your systems will remain at 13% after December 31, 2015.

For more information, you can consult the province’s Tax Information Bulletin (Number HST 001) via the following link: http://www.fin.gov.nl.ca/fin/tax_programs_incentives/
